Alnico Magnets are manufactured from an alloy of aluminium, nickel, cobalt, and iron, with small amounts of other elements added to achieve specific magnetic properties. Renowned for their exceptional temperature resistance, Alnico magnets can operate continuously at temperatures of up to 540°C, making them an excellent choice for high-temperature environments where other permanent magnets, such as Neodymium, would lose their magnetic performance.
Although Alnico magnets offer lower magnetic strength than Rare Earth Magnets, they provide excellent magnetic stability over a wide temperature range and are commonly used in sensors, electric motors, measuring instruments, holding devices, guitar pickups, and industrial equipment. Their low resistance to demagnetisation by opposing magnetic fields means they are best suited to applications where the magnetic circuit is well designed or the magnet is mechanically retained.
One of the distinguishing features of Alnico magnets is their traditional metallic appearance and the ability to manufacture them in complex shapes and multi-pole configurations. Classic horseshoe magnets, bar magnets, and many specialised magnetic assemblies are commonly produced from Alnico due to their reliable performance and excellent thermal characteristics.
If your application requires a permanent magnet capable of operating in extreme temperatures while maintaining stable magnetic performance, Alnico magnets remain one of the most proven and reliable magnetic materials available.
