Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) is a high power magnet having slightly less power than a Neodymium. The advantage with this material is its high temperature ability as they can operate at up to 250˚C without demagnetising. Samariums have a slight gold tinge, and do not require coating for protection.
They are more costly than other magnets, but are essential when a high temperature, strong magnet is required such as being used as an oven magnet being able to keep their magnetism under extreme levels of heat.
Magnetic separation equipment under high temperature conditions may also use these magnets where Neodymium may fail.
At Magnets New Zealand, we pride ourselves in our high quality magnets and superior customer service.
